Description
Japan decided to look into Europe and Southeast Asia to increase their resources. During the year 1940 America discovered the plans that Japan stirred up for Southeast Asian colonies. America knew if Japan invaded Southeast Asian colonies that would affect the Philippine Island and Guam which American had control of. Moreover, America wanted to stop the Japanese from the invasion and sent assistance to strengthen China. However, Japan still continued with their plan and invaded French Indochina in 1941, that was when Roosevelt completely stopped oil shipments to Japan. This made Japan furious and planned to attack the U.S. unexpectedly, and that was exactly what they did. On December 7,1941 was the bombing of Pearl Harbor ("President Roosevelt says,"A date which will live in infamy."), and U.S. declared war on Japan. Japan did not resist to invading the Southeast Asian colonies and invade the Philippines and Guam. Japan also invade Burma which is between China and India because China received supplies through the Burma Road, however the Japanese stopped shipments of supply on the Burma Road. That was when the Bataan Death March occurred, which was a forced march of American and Filipino prisoners controlled by the Japanese. For revenge America decided to have bombs dropped on Tokyo in Japan. The Allies, mainly America and Australia, had stopped Japanese south expansion, even though the army suffered from loss of ships. Japan then headed for the Midway Island which was west of Hawaii. America discovered another code of Japan and knew about the Midway invasion beforehand, and America took down 311 Japanese fleets. Moreover, Japan withdrew from the battle. However, Japan went into several islands in the Pacific, and the U.S. also discovered that Japan was constructing an air base in the islands of Guadalcanal and Solomon. So, on August 7,1942 the Allies went into Guadalcanal and fought. The battle continued for six months until 1943.
